Mews House
The owner of this mews house – himself an architect –
approached us after seeing our redesign of the fs office in Notting
Hill. The brief was to totally re-plan and redesign the house.
The biggest challenge was to gain planning permission for a radical
new frontage. Although the house was in a conservation area, we believed
a solution that rationalised the whole façade would have more
integrity than imitating the mock Georgian and other haphazard refurbishments
that characterised other houses in the mews.
Persuading the planning officer to approve this contemporary interpretation
of a traditional mews house required diplomacy and flexibility.
Although a small house, Murphy|Davé made use of each and every
available space to create compact living in a spacious and light filled
environment.
Design features
• the stairs were refurbished with new solid ash treads
and glass balustrades with roof lights to introduce light into the

floor for the better light which was improved by introducing large
windows

floors and white walls
